We talked a lot about FLOSS and a little about Linux. We try to solve world problems and talked about software patents, open source software and future of Linux distributions in commercial world. I enjoyed myself a great deal.

Flash 9 is available for Linux. You can play your You Tube videos on Linux now.

Fedora dropped core from its name and plan to merge core and extra software repositories to one repository. Fedora 7 is planed to release in April 2007.

Sun Microsystems, Inc. released Java 1.6. This release is still under closed source license. Sun is planning to open source Java under GPL2 and this process should be done somewhere in middle of the year. more...

Fedora Core 6 reaches the 1 million mark in just 74 days.
A mere 74 days after its release, Fedora Core 6 (Zod) has been downloaded over 1 million times, according to the project's leader. That works out to approximately nine downloads per minute for more than 10 weeks straight. more...

It is estimated that in desktop market Windows has 95%, Mac has 3% and Linux has 2%. In server market Linux has much greater market share.

We talked about how we spend our Christmas holiday Myth TV, PHP, Perl and how to bring more people to EC_LUG. I have been running Open Suse 10.2. 64 bit version for about 3 weeks. One of the think I like is that I can run it on my Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It is pretty fast.

Hardware.
SanDisk wants to replace the hard drive in notebooks with flash memory, a swap that it says will make thin laptops faster and more reliable. more...

Digital photography.
I have been looking for Application that would replace (Windows) Capture One RAW image convector for my Canon Rebel DSLR. I have found only two semi viable options and none of them are open source. Both applications were Java based.

Light Zone is unsupported and free (as beer) version of commercial version for Windows and Mac OS X. I was able to see my RAW images add do most of image adjustments. I will try to learn it better before getting rid of Capture One. Very promising.

RawView is somehow outdated demo program for Java RAW manipulation library. I was able to view images and do the slide show with unprocessed images. It had Java based NetZero installer.

New Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 07.04 is scheduled to be released in 19-APR-07.

New EXT4 file system supports file system encryption Reiser FS is loosing out.
