Kernel Released; Hello
KMS and Btrfs. With much anticipation, the Linux
2.6.29 kernel was released just moments ago by Linus Torvalds.
Besides introducing an interim logo to stand-in for Tux, the Linux
2.6.29 kernel most notably introduces support for kernel mode-setting

Sun deal could
make IBM unbeatable
in Unix server market. If IBM actually were to buy Sun
Microsystems Inc., the world's largest maker of Unix servers would
take over the No. 2 vendor. Unix servers may not be getting as much

TomTom Sues
Microsoft on Patent
Infringement. Dutch navigation device maker TomTom
has filed a countersuit against Microsoft Corp, accusing the U.S.
company of violating three of its patents. The suit, filed on Monday
in the U.S. District Court for the eastern district of Virginia,
comes a few weeks after Microsoft filed a complaint against TomTom
for violating its patents related to innovations in car navigational
